The Electoral Office for Northern Ireland is consulting on proposed Polling Places for the combined Northern Ireland Assembly and Local Government elections scheduled for 6 May 2027. The proposals support electors as all electors have been allocated a single Polling Place for both polls – thus avoiding moving between two places to vote.
The Government has scheduled combined Assembly and Councils elections for 6 May 2027. The Electoral Office is seeking to ensure that combined polling arrangements are practical for electors enabling them to attend one Polling Place to cast both ballots. Polling Places were reviewed to cater for this requirement.
The scheme is intended to reduce confusion by assigning each elector to a single Polling Place for both the Assembly and Local Government elections.
No. Only a minority of electors (around 5%) have been asked to attend a different Polling Place but at that Polling Place they will be able to cast their vote in both elections. Final decisions will only be made after consultation responses have been considered.
A different Polling Place may be proposed where it helps ensure electors can vote for both elections at one location, where the previous venue is no longer suitable or available, or where another location better supports accessibility, capacity, safety or effective election administration.
