Provided you are listed on the electoral register and at least 18 years of age on the day of the election, you can vote at the following elections:
British, Irish or eligible Commonwealth citizens can vote at all elections.
Eligible European Union citizens (not British or Irish) can vote at Northern Ireland Assembly and Local Council elections only. Eligible European Union citizens are not eligible to vote at UK Parliamentary elections.
Overseas Electors can vote at UK Parliamentary elections only. You must vote either by proxy (by appointing someone to vote for you) or if you are at home on election day in person (instead of your proxy).
There are three ways to vote:
- In person at a polling station (where you go to a polling station and vote in person)
- By post (where your vote is posted out to you and you return it to us in advance of election day)
- By proxy (where you appoint someone to vote in a polling station for you)
