UK Parliamentary election - on the ballot paper mark a cross (X) against the candidate you wish to vote for.
All other elections - mark a ‘1’ against your first preferred candidate, a ‘2’ against your second preferred candidate and so on, for as many candidates as you wish.
If you make a mistake on your ballot paper in the polling station you can return the ballot paper to the polling station staff and you will be issued with a replacement. If you make a mistake on your ballot paper and put it in the ballot box, a replacement cannot be issued.
If you make a mistake on your ballot paper in a postal vote you can return your postal vote documents to the Electoral Office and obtain a replacement. You must do this by 5pm on the day before polling day. If you lose your ballot paper you cannot obtain a replacement.
