The Electoral Office will contact you by email or letter. 

If you receive an email it will be from electoral.office.for.northern.ireland@notifications.service.gov.uk

The Electoral Office receive information from other government organisations to help manage the Electoral Register.

If you have very recently updated your details with another government organisation this may be the reason you have been asked to update the Electoral Register.

The Electoral Office has received information that you are living at this address. Therefore you need to complete a register to vote application at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote to be added to the register at your new address.

If you have updated your details on the Electoral Register in the last 3 months then you can ignore this letter/email.

If the Electoral Office contact you and ask you to provide information then you are required by law to register to vote. This is to ensure the Electoral Register remains accurate.

By law if you fail to update the Electoral Register when you should, then you can be taken to court and fined. 

If you cannot register to vote online, then another person aged 18 or over can help you.

If your son/daughter turns 17 years old, by 30 November then they are allowed to register to vote now. 

They should do so now even though they will not be able to vote until they turn 18 years old.
