Postal and Proxy Voting
If it is unreasonable to expect you to go to your allotted polling station and vote in person you may be entitled to either a postal vote or a proxy vote.
If you are allowed a postal vote a ballot paper will be sent to you about two weeks before polling day. You mark the ballot paper as normal and return it in the pre-paid envelope. It will be mixed with other ballot papers before the votes are counted so no one will know how you voted.
If you are allowed a proxy vote you appoint someone to go and vote on your behalf. Once your proxy is appointed you do not have to do anything else. The proxy must normally vote at the polling station allocated to you. Where it would be unreasonable to expect the proxy to go there (e.g. because of the distance) the proxy may apply to vote by way of a postal vote. Such an application should be made using the appropriate postal vote application form taking care in the ‘Reason for Application’ section to state the full name and address of the elector for whom they are voting.
